Successful Career Counseling Interventions Used with Students in Poverty: A Preliminary Report

This preliminary report by Valerie Couture, Na Mi Bang, Angela McCoy Harless, via the National Career Development Association, examines the career counselling interventions school counsellors in the United States use with students who live in poverty. Five school counsellors with experience working with students in poverty, at least one year of school counselling experience in Arkansas, and current licensure in school counselling were interviewed. Themes that emerged include: empowerment and self-advocacy, access to food and information, and diverse activities and interventions.
