Managing Mental Health Issues In the Workplace

Navigating mental health issues in the workplace is becoming more and more prevalent, whether it be working with an employee to develop an accommodation plan, interviewing a party in the course of an investigation who is experiencing mental health issues, or dealing with an employee on leave. Participate in this session to learn about how managing mental health issues is both the same as and different from other accommodation issues in the workplace. Learn practical tools ranging from the medical information you can request, what are your obligations and how to accommodate in the context of mental health, and how to have sensitive conversations with both the impacted employee and the team.

  • Understanding the difference between the procedural and substantive duty to accommodate
  • Appreciating the multi-party role in accommodation, including an employee’s obligation to co-operate
