29th Annual Futures Conference | Enhancing Employability

The 29th Annual Futures conference is will be held on Tuesday September 26th to Thursday September 28th 2017 at the Blue Mountain Resort in beautiful Collingwood, ON. This three-day professional development event attracts 375 delegates from 100 youth employment counseling centres, colleges, the private and public sectors, as well as other community-based organizations.
Have an idea valuable to the employment and training community? Then you’re invited to get involved and share your experience. First Work is seeking high-quality content and presenters whose focus is the needs of employment and career development professionals.


Proposals from industry professionals to share their knowledge and business acumen are now being accepted in the following learning streams:
– Intake, Assessment & Counselling; Job Development & Employer Relations; Talent Recruitment, Management and Development;  Program Design;  Self-Care and Wellness; Industry Awareness and Expertise;  Leveraging Social Media;  Program Design & Evaluation;  Government Relations & Policy; Promoting Career Discovery; Facilitating School to Work Transition; Data & The Art of Storytelling; Tools, Resources and Technology; Literacy & Basic Skills (LBS); Youth Engagement

The Futures Planning Committee seeks sessions led by solo presenters, co-presenters, panel members, and subject matter experts. Sessions are 60 minutes in length, including introduction, presentation and Q&A. Please note that sessions are limited to three (3) speakers. Panel presentations must include a moderator and at least two (2) panel members but is limited to three (3). Speakers can submit more than one session format; however, separate applications must be submitted. Although not a requirement, presenters are encouraged to collaborate with peers in other fields to bring a broad perspective to the subject matter.

  • Innovative professional experience
  • Comfortable facilitating sector-related workshops, seminars and interactive offerings
  • Experienced in adult education and designing interactive learning environments
  • Able to implement innovative learning techniques



Review Proposal
The Review Committee seeks presentations that are engaging, creative, fun, useful and informative. Effective use of statistical and analytic benchmarking, research, and delivery methodologies and use of appropriate media are encouraged for presentations. The Committee will review all submissions to decide which are selected.

Reviewers will evaluate your proposal for its relevance of the topic to the overall conference, educational significance and contribution to the respective topic, unique value to participants, presenter knowledge and experience, and actionable learning objectives. The selection process involves a review of every complete presentation submitted prior to the deadline. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Please note, more presentations are submitted than can be accepted and there will be an effort to select sessions by presenters who have not presented at a previous Futures event.
Submissions will be accepted until Wednesday May 31, 2017.
