Program Overview

The Toronto Youth Job Corps program helps at-risk youth gain sustainable employment through skill development and life skill training. A 5-weeks pre-employment training, assessment, and work experience leads to a 6-24 week subsidized work placement, with the goal of securing full time employment. Staff typically work with sector partners to place participants in various work experience locations, monitor their performance, and assess suitability for full- time employment.

Toronto Youth Job Corps (TYJC)

Full-time / 1 year contract with possibility of renewal / Starting ASAP / Jane & Finch

We’re looking for someone who will:

  • Interviews and assesses client for appropriateness of program; manages client and referring agent expectations
  • Develops materials for life skills and employability workshop delivery and facilitates sessions
  • Provides case management, individual counselling, life skills coaching and group facilitation
  • Assesses clients’ abilities, skills and needs, and establishes mutually agreed upon employment action plan
  • Provides community outreach by marketing the program and liaising with community service providers
  • Monitors clients’ performance with follow-up of individual plans; helps with implementation of individual plan and provides feedback
  • Maintain complete, updated files, case notes and documentation on a database, Salesforce
    Completes monthly stats and reports to funder requirements

 

Flexible hours / evenings / weekends may be required for this position.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling or Social Services with placement experience, or a related degree with 3-5 years of counselling experience. International degrees must be evaluated for Canadian equivalency.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with at-risk youth
  • Experience providing workshop development and facilitation to youth
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision making skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to write reports
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with a varied client population and effectively deal with a variety of professional and pscyho/social issues
  • Ability to effectively deal with youth from different cultural and racial backgrounds and/or with special needs
  • Computer literate; the ability to learn systems used by the agency (ie. SalesForce)
  • A clear Police Vulnerable Sector check is required for this position

 

Our ideal candidate will also have:

  • Employment Ontario knowledge and exposure
  • Certification from an organization such as VRA Canada or ICCI
  • Knowledge of a second language
