Employment Counsellor
Stz'uminus First Nation - Ladysmith, BC

Employment Counsellor Position
The Stz’uminus First Nation is seeking an Employment Counsellor for a 1 year term.

The successful candidate will be a qualified and experienced Employment Counsellor. This position is responsible for providing assistance, counseling and information to the Stz’uminus First Nation members on all aspects of employment search and career planning. A very critical aspect of this role is to also the ability to liaise with government and industry agencies to promote employment opportunities for members. The Employment Counsellor works closely with the Social Assistants program to process and distribute social assistance applications and issuing monthly cheques.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 Case Management including interviewing clients, vocational assessments and counselling
 Complete the in Intake Process and data entry into the AIS software
 Identifying barriers to employment and assisting clients to acquire job readiness skills, undertake job searches, write resumes and prepare for job interviews
 Administer and interpret employment related tests and assessment instruments
 Liaise with government and industry agencies to promote employment opportunities for members
 Monitor and maintain financial and statistical tracking where required
 Management reporting and statistics
 A genuine interest in working with and helping people be successful in their career planning
 Patience, understanding, objectivity and tact
 Ability to motivate and inspire community members
 Excellent verbal and written communications
 Advanced planning, organizational and research skills
 Ability to work independently and with other professionals, employers and community agencies
 Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external partners
 Knowledge of the local labour market is essential
 Continually researching local and broader labour market conditions and trends
 Setting up systems and processes related to employment counselling and programs
 Populating database information
 Experience working with Aboriginal Information Systems software an asset

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 A post secondary bachelor degree or a diploma in Career or Employment Counselling
 2 years experience as an Employment Counsellor
 A successful criminal records check is mandatory
 Must have and maintain a valid BC drivers license
