POSITION: Youth Job Link Specialist

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 1 Full Time Temporary Contract Position(9 month contract with possibility of extension)

LOCATION: Brampton South (supporting 4 Peel Region Offices: Brampton South, Brampton East, Malton and Mississauga)

REPORTING TO: Sr. Coordinator, Employment Services

START DATE: July 3, 2017

END DATE: March 31, 2018

HOURS: Mondays – Fridays; 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (some evenings and weekends may be required)

ANNUAL SALARY: $46,000 – $47,980 per annum pro-rated (depending on experience)

As part of the Employment Ontario (EO) network the Centre for Education & Training works with individuals, employers and communities to build the highly skilled, highly educated workforce that Ontario needs to be competitive.

Working with the ES Coordinator and Resource & Information team, the YJL Specialist positions will focus on marketing and outreach efforts to promote the Youth Job Link program (YJL) and provide job matching services to clients and employer; administering limited incentives funds to employers and support funds to clients in accordance with provincial program guidelines.



Main Duties:

  • Conduct active outreach to employers to identify opportunities and promote the Youth Job Link program and Job matching and Placement Support Services
  • Research companies/employers to develop a high number of potential employment and placement leads and job opportunities for youth 15-29
  • Contact targeted companies via cold calling, face-to-face meeting, social media, or other effective methods to inform them of the YJL ES services
  • Provide information to potential job seeking youth or unemployed individuals about the YJL services available to them including eligibility and suitability
  • Ensure that employers meet all eligibility criteria
  • Maintain constant communication with hiring employers to initiate and build strong relationships that support future employment opportunities for youth
  • Assist in organizing and promoting adequate, appropriate and results-focused hiring/Placement events, job interviews, employer meetings to connect employers with job seekers
  • Advertise employment job vacancies on behalf of the employer
  • Assist with identifying potentially suitable clients for job vacancies
  • Provide financial Supports to participants to remove barriers to transitioning into their first job
  • Provide incentives to employers who hire youth with no previous work experience
  • Working with the R&I team, assist to gather and organize job postings for job and message boards ensuring that they are diverse employment opportunities that matches youths interests and abilities
  • Promote the YJL services to local schools, organizations and other programs or initiatives that provide services to Youth between the ages of 15-29 and continue to foster the relationship for ongoing referrals and support
  • Assist with data entry and organization of placement information
  • Ensure that weekly and monthly targets are met
  • Collect and keeps accurate data and documentation for statistical reporting
  • Collect and keep accurate information on employers, job leads and all other youth/employer job matching activities
  • Participate in community and business networking events, meetings, job fairs and other activities to inform the community, employers and job seekers about YJL Program
  • Other outreach /marketing, and job matching activities as assigned by site Senior Coordinator


Other Duties:

  • Facilitate structured and individualized support for conducting successful job search to youth in a group setting or individually
  • Assist with R&I front desk responsibilities as needed including answering calls, entering data into CETRA/CaMS, registering clients for information sessions, Scheduling appointments
  • Provide general direction and guidance to individuals and employers accessing the Resource & Information service as needed with print and online information, resources and activities that support independent employability support;



  • Post Secondary Education and or related work experience
  • 1-2 years’ experience in job development and/or job matching support with or without incentives preferred
  • Understanding basic marketing and sales principles to apply to producing job leads and acquiring opportunities
  • Cold calling experience, with demonstrated experience in developing professional relationships with employer, clients and community partners
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office) and precise data entry skills
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and knowledge of how to prospect new employer clients
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups – including youth, unemployed, newcomers to Canada-businesses or other groups with specialized needs
  • Experience organizing and promoting events would be an asset
  • Previous group facilitation experience
  • Demonstrated high level of communication skills (speaking, listening and writing)
  • Goal oriented, highly organized, flexible and adaptable with superior time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage a high volume workload with accuracy
  • Reliable, dedicated team player who is self-motivated
  • Access to reliable transportation (Mileage is reimbursed at a competitive rate)
  • Ability to travel frequently within Brampton and Mississauga and TCET locations
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends or split shifts as necessary
