The Opportunity

These are your responsibilities:
Employment Resource Centre
• Provide direct support and guidance to both self-directed and case managed customers accessing the Employment Resource Centre.
• Provide self-directed customers with appropriate community referrals, based on their individual needs.
• Conduct research on an ongoing basis to assist in the creation of current and high quality resources for all employment services customers (individuals, employers, and the community).
• Assist in the development of materials (both print and electronic) and in researching books, resources and other employment tools.
• Use a respectful approach consistent with Motivational Interviewing and Solution-Focused customer service approaches to determine the blend of self-directed vs. case managed services that best suit the client’s situation.

One-on-one Client Services
• Use an approach consistent with the Motivational Interviewing and Solution-Focused counseling models to conduct interviews with new customers to determine their needs, help them identify and clarify their work-related goals, identify next steps, and also co-develop Service Plans when appropriate.
• Maintain attendance documentation, program records and customer files in a confidential manner, in accordance with relevant privacy legislation and internal procedures.
• Maintain up-to-date customer records in the EOIS-CaMS and Client Tracking System databases.
• Case conferences with internal Employment Services staff to ensure each customer’s needs are being met in each component of service.
• Monitor customer progress through conducting regular follow-up activities and soliciting customer feedback.
• Refer clients to other suitable services in the community to meet client needs and track these referrals in the EOIS as per Centre standards.
• Administer and interpret appropriate career assessments, ensuring a customer- and solution-focused, client empowerment approach.
• Coach customers on various topics related to job search and career exploration, effectively moving customers through their Service Plans towards short-term and long-term employment goals.

Group Facilitation
• Provide career assessments and interpretations in a group-based format where deemed appropriate.
• Develop and facilitate workshops on employability skills, career planning and/or job search as required.

Other
• Work in partnership with the Site Coordinator and team to deliver and continuously improve Employment Service processes and practices.
• Work closely with the Job Developer to help clients make connections to employers where appropriate.
• Assist the team with grassroots marketing and outreach efforts on an ongoing basis.
• Represent the team at networking events.
• Assist the Coordinator and team to plan and host special events, such as job fairs and employer panels.
• Other job related duties as assigned by the Coordinator, Senior Coordinator, and/or Manager.

What you need to bring to this job:

Educational Requirements:
• Post-secondary degree or diploma

Suitable educational equivalents may be considered for individuals with 5+ years of highly related experience in a similar role within an employment services setting.

• Career Development Practitioner diploma/certificate from an approved post-secondary institution
• Certificate in Mental Health & Addictions would be an asset

An asset would be additional, relevant Career Practitioner training:  Counselling techniques; Assessment certifications, etc.

Work Experience Requirements:
Work experience required:  Minimum 2 years
Job related experience required: Minimum 2 years of experience in the career development field

Other Job Requirements:

• Ability to work in busy, outcomes based model; accountable for obtaining monthly targets.
• Experience in working with adults from culturally and socio-economically diverse backgrounds.
• Familiarity of major mental illnesses including signs and symptoms with knowledge of local resources.
• Demonstrated experience in working with Newcomers in a Multicultural environment.
• Experience working with individuals to help them identify, clarify, and reach their work-related goals.
• Knowledge and experience with Motivational Interviewing, Solution-focused Counselling, and the Common Assessment and/or similar model for conducting intake assessments.
• Knowledge of the Stages of Change, in relation to best practices for interacting with customers.
• Ability to quickly assess client information needs and determine appropriate referrals.
• Broad-based knowledge about current labour market trends and community services relating to employment, job retention, mental health, newcomers/ESL, etc.
• Experience providing counselling and assessment sessions in both individual and group-based settings.
• Certification in Personality Dimensions, Strong Interest Inventory, MBTI and/or other formal career assessments is an asset.
• Knowledge and experience facilitating group workshops on the topics of job search strategies, employability skills, career assessments and job retention.
• Expertise using career development software, such as Career Cruising, Scott’s Directory, etc.
• Proficiency in using MS-Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
• Comfortable coaching clients on how to use social media for job search purposes.
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills – able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain harmonious relations with internal staff, partners, and the public.
• Proficiency in languages other than English, an asset.
• Access to a reliable vehicle, possession of a valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel throughout Halton and Peel regions as required.
• Knowledge of major mental illnesses including signs and symptoms
• Knowledge of case management including, local resources and access to services
• Excellent assessment skills and crisis intervention skills
