POSITION: Workshop Facilitator – Focus to Employment Program
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-Time Temporary (with possibility of extension and full time status)
LOCATION: Peel Region -Brampton East / Mississauga
REPORTING TO: Manager, Youth Services
START DATE: January 2, 2017
END DATE: Feb 28, 2017  (with possibility of extension)
ANNUAL SALARY: 43,590 – 44,590 (pro-rated depending on experience)
SCHEDULE: Mondays- Fridays, 8:30am – 4:30pm
HOURS: 35 hours a week

SUMMARY: The Focus to Employment Program is a two week in class job search program followed by 6 months of active support for Ontario Works clients referred by the Region of Peel.  The program provides participants with the necessary pre-employment tools to find employment.  OW clients referred by their Caseworker or Employment Services Worker will continue to work with program staff for 6 months while they obtain and retain their employment.   Centre for Education & Training is seeking a skilled Workshop Facilitator to conduct interactive workshops on employment strategies, career exploration and job search support.



  • Professionally maintain client records and adhere to client confidentiality
  • Facilitate half-day interactive job search  workshops covering topics such as:
  • Personalized Action Plan,  Barrier Awareness, Identification and Solution Planning Employer Expectations,  Labour Market,  Business and Workplace Culture,  Cultural Diversity,  Communication
  • Skills:  speaking, writing, e-mail and telephone,  Steps to building a NEW network, Online Protocols,  Effective Self- Marketing and Comprehensive Research Interview Preparation, Resume Writing and Job Search Skills
  • Provide half-day extensive assistance and advice (i.e. job search, interview and resume preparation, Cover letters etc.)
  • Conduct mock interviews for clients and assist them in preparing for job interviews
  • Make phone calls to clients’ case workers, employers, regulatory bodies, and keep client files complete with all necessary forms
  • Conduct orientation sessions to outline the program to prospective clients individually and in a group format
  • Individual consultation and coaching on a regular basis with all program clients as needed, for up to 6 months after in class program completion
  • Undertake other duties as assigned



  • Experience facilitating job search related sessions with knowledge of current job search techniques and career assessment tools
  • Excellent communication, organizational and teamwork skills
  • Motivational, energetic facilitation style
  • Patience and empathy regarding the needs of diverse groups of clients
  • 1 year previous experience working with OW Client Group
  • Certification in Personality Dimensions considered a strong asset, experience using other career assessment tools is required
  • Good understanding of job search strategies, career counselling, and experience facilitating job search sessions
  • Experience developing curriculum and adapting to meet participants’ needs
  • Appropriate post-secondary education or equivalent experience
  • Require vehicle and be flexible to work at different locations  within Peel Region
