This position is responsible for providing counselling services and human development programs to the Brandon University student community. The duties of this position include individual, relationship, and family counselling; career and vocational counselling; crisis intervention and academic counselling. Clinical services provided by Brandon University’s counsellors involve a wide range of activities including therapy, appropriate referral to other resources and liaison with hospital and community services. This position also involves program development that addresses student retention and mental health issues.
Familiarity of the Manitoba Mental Health Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and Personal Health Information Act (PHIA). Experience in a post-secondary environment, training or experience in student retention/success, workshop planning, leadership skills, flexibility and a good sense of humor are preferred. The ability to collaborate and work effectively as a member of a team of Student Services professionals is essential.
Applicants must have a Master’s degree in a clinical counselling or equivalent in a relative discipline, and five (5) years of related clinical experience in areas requiring therapeutic interventions and crisis intervention in young adult mental health issues, cross cultural contexts and group activities of a therapeutic and developmental nature.
