Title: Employment Coordinator
Terms of Employment: Permanent Full Time, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: 50,677 plus comprehensive benefit package.
Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible
Location: Hamilton

Reporting Relationship: The Employment Coordinator reports directly to the Manager of Employment Services

Education, Experience and Skill Requirements:

Education: Post Secondary Degree in Social Sciences and/or Diploma in Social Services or equivalent. Career Development Practitioner Certificate an asset.

Experience: 2 years of related experience – in assessing career interest, skills, abilities and work readiness, finding employment opportunities, relevant supports and providing skill development to obtain and retain employment.

Some background in business with human resources, marketing and sales experience an asset. Track record of meeting performance expectations.


Employment issues regarding persons with disabilities, broad based knowledge of the Hamilton labour market and community services including those relating to employment & job retention, knowledge of career software such Career Cruising an asset.

Ability to: meet targets and deadlines, document actions, assess needs, identify barriers, develop plans and use communication, administrative and organizational skills to achieve results, provide training or facilitate groups, work independently and in a team environment, travel throughout Hamilton, having access to reliable transportation, write reports, maintain files, proficiently use MS Office, Outlook and web browsers.

Essential Skills: reading text, document use, writing, oral communication, working with others, problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, promoting and persuading, job task planning and organizing, finding information, computer use, continuous learning.

Excellent writing and time management skills a must.

Languages: Speak English, Read English, Write English

Police record check is required.


Utilize case management skills to work with individuals to assist them in reaching mutually agreed upon employment goals, applying appropriate interviewing and employment counselling skills, developing appropriate strategies to help clients overcome obstacles to employment and drawing on appropriate counselling tools, program resources and community services.

  • Interview clients to obtain employment history, educational background and career goals,
  • Assess clients’ interests, skills, abilities and readiness as they relate to obtaining and retaining employment and identifies barriers to employment,
  • Provide individual counselling, assisting in the development of a client’s individualized plans to achieve their employment counselling goal(s),
  • Provide support and skill development in areas related to obtaining employment such as job search strategies, job application, resume writing and interview skills,
  • Find/develop employment opportunities for clients, contacting potential employers in order to obtain job leads, promote the program and develop relationships,
  • Provide information on employment opportunities that are compatible with client’s interests, skills and abilities by analyzing available jobs and identifying specific tasks to match jobs to clients,
  • Facilitate group sessions such as information sessions, career and job search strategy workshops,
  • Maintain and provide current employment-related information such as labour market information, employment standards regulations, human rights and information on other community resources and services,
  • Follow up job placements by assisting employers to work with clients through orientation and education and provide clients with support,
  • Liaise with community service providers in order to promote the program,
  • Maintain related records in accordance with established policies and guidelines and produce reports as required.
