Title: Career and Employment Information Specialist

Terms of Employment: Temporary (less than 1 year) Full Time, 37.5 hours per week

Salary:  $35,196

Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible

Location: Hamilton

Type of Establishment: Non-profit employment agency serving people with disabilities in Hamilton since 1972.   PATH Employment Services is committed to ensuring the meaningful employment of people with any type of disability

Reporting Relationship: The Career and Employment Information Specialist reports directly to the Manager of Administrative Services.

 

Education, Experience and Skill Requirements:

Education:

Post Secondary Degree in Social Sciences and/or Diploma in Social Services or equivalent. Career Development Practitioner Certificate an asset.

Knowledge:

Current trends and best practices in job search strategies, current trends and labour market knowledge, Employment related services and agencies available in Hamilton, Employment issues regarding persons with disabilities. Career software such as Career Cruising an asset.

Ability to:

Utilize strong organizational skills to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously, provide support and guidance, exercise discretion and sound judgment in sensitive situations, identify needs, research and gather information, refer individuals to community services, provide on-going coaching and assistance to clients, critique client resume/cover letters accurately, organize and display information, work independently and in a team environment, proficiently use MS Office, Outlook and Internet browsers.

Essential Skills:

Reading text, Document use, Writing, Oral communication, Working with others, Problem solving, Decision making, Critical thinking, Job task planning and organizing, Finding information, Computer use, Continuous learning.

Languages:

Description:

The Employment Resource Centre (ERC) is a busy, public access service point where the staff member is expected to deliver excellent customer service. Through their work in assisting clients and working with their colleagues the Career & Employment Information Specialist will apply a range of knowledge and skills in an environment that is technologically up to date and demanding.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as the first point of contact, greet and welcome clients, employers and visitors projecting a professional image through in-person, email and telephone interaction
  • Provide new clients with an orientation to PATH’s assisted and ERC services
  • Schedule intake appointments, collect basic client data, prepare intake packages
  • Refer clients appropriately to PATH resources and/or community services
  • Provide on-going coaching, assistance and encouragement to clients
  • Facilitate client’s use of the Employment Resource Centre tools ( computers, fax, copies and phone use)
  • Conduct employment related workshops and computer tutorials
  • Critique client resume/cover letters accurately and suggest current trends
  • Ensure all information, resources, equipment are current and up to date
  • Research and gather information to create new resources and tools
  • Organize related materials and tools for ease of accessibility by clients
  • Conduct outreach activities and liaise with community agencies and organizations
  • Encourage client job search knowledge, confidence and independence
  • Collect ongoing client feedback
  • Prepare and maintain information on agency activities
  • Refer clients to community resources relevant to their needs
  • Assist with the orientation and on-going guidance of volunteers and placement students
  • Other duties as assigned
