East Scarborough Storefront (The Storefront) is a project on Tides Canada’s Shared Platform.

The Storefront uses an innovative Connected Community Approach to improve the well-being of people in the inner-suburban community of Kingston Galloway Orton Park (KGO).

The Storefront is a Community Backbone Organization; as such we facilitate collaboration, build community and support people to learn and create together, to live healthy lives, to find meaningful work, to play and thrive.


Position Overview

To ensure that residents of East Scarborough have the best support possible as they seek to fulfil their job and career aspirations; to create and utilize collaborative processes that leverage labour market information, government programs and local relationships in support of decent work for East Scarborough residents.


This position requires a knowledge of issues facing inner suburban communities, an attention to detail inherent in the Employment Ontario employment model as well as a collaborative and network approach to leadership.


Key Responsibilities include:

Employment Support Management

  • Provide leadership to The Storefront’s employment team to help them create and maintain an Employment Resource Centre that is both a welcoming and effective resource for community members seeking employment help
  • Design and monitor employment supports and processes that are grounded in the Connected Community Approach


Partnership Engagement

  • Make effective use of Storefront connections, affiliations and other resources to ensure that community members are aware of job, training and other opportunities in as timely and accessible manner as possible
  • Actively support a collaborative approach to employment support across East Scarborough using the Connected Community Approach of convening, communicating and connecting


Information Management

  • Ensure that all documentation, including, but not limited to funder databases and forms is kept current and accurate at all times
  • Provide accurate reports to funders as required
  • Collate and analyse and use data to understand who we are supporting, what their aspirations are, their strengths and their distance from the labour market


Team Leadership

  • Take a proactive and asset-based approach to supervision and team development in accordance with Storefront philosophy, principles and policies
  • Help team respond positively to a dynamic and emergent community, sector and organizational environment
  • Play an active role on The Storefront’s management team


Qualifications Required


  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in employment counselling, workforce development or equivalent relevant experience
  • Familiarity with workforce development and the strategic use of labour market information
  • Experience managing data
  • Experience providing leadership and direction to others and an understanding of the principles of effective supervision
  • Understanding and/or experience of the realities, benefits and challenges of living in marginalized inner suburban communities; direct connection to East Scarborough considered an asset
  • Familiarity with Employment Ontario or other government-funded employment programs



  • A personal commitment to The Storefront’s aims and objectives and an understanding of or willingness to learn about the way The Storefront engages in the community (the Connected Community Approach)
  • A welcoming, respectful and enthusiastic approach to working with people
  • An asset based and collaborative approach
  • A thorough understanding of working in community, and a demonstrated ability to apply an empathetic and holistic approach to working with people
  • Flexibility



  • Ability to think strategically and link individual actions to larger goals
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to accurately manage details
  • Comfort with group and workshop facilitation
  • Strong planning, priority setting and organizational skills
  • Strong computer proficiency



  • Minimum 2 years of post-secondary education in a relevant field

Full time Monday to Friday, schedule to be determined, occasional evening and weekend work required.
