Conducts initial assessment of client including identifying; motivation level, long and short-term goals based upon strengths, barriers, interests, aptitudes, prior work experience, education, etc.
Develops return to work service plans with clients
Works with clients in developing tools for job searches such as résumés and cover letters.
Assists clients with skill assessments providing support with obtaining career goals including retraining options.
Makes appropriate referrals for supportive services including in-house or with other community and government organizations.
Maintains regular contact with clients including follow up appointments and telephone calls providing on-going support and guidance.
Completes file work adhering to agency standards including; progress on service plans, contacts, and maintains case notes
Performs case management and monitors intake and client data ensuring all targets are met or exceeded
Some facilitation and development of workshop material is required
Actively participates in scheduled team and staff meetings
Maintains professional standards at all times
Knowledge and/or training of:
Human Rights Legislation, Labour Laws and Employment Equity Laws
Résumé writing and interviewing techniques.
Job search techniques and career trends.
Labour market trends – local, regional, provincial and national.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills – listening, building rapport, supporting.
Strong coaching skills – questioning, advising, motivating and encouraging.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and typing of minimum 40 wpm.
Multi-task and work well under pressure.
Work independently and with a team.
Organize, prioritize, solve problems and adapt to change.
Respond to difficult, challenging, or disruptive clients to alleviate or resolve issues.
Demonstrate empathy towards individual client needs, wants and situations.
A bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as psychology, social services or education.
Experience in employment counselling or related field.
