The JVS Employment Source Toronto Centre office, funded by MAESD, provides a range of employment services (information and referral, one-on-one employment counselling, employment workshops, job development/placement services) to unemployed individuals of all ages, financial backgrounds and skills to help them gain employment within their field or a related field.


The individual in this position will:

  • Provide individual employment counselling and facilitate employment workshops in the office and in the community
  • Assess client needs and develop service plans that demonstrate the coordination of appropriate interventions to support employment goals
  • Demonstrate an outcome-focused case management ability; promoting Employment Ontario Services, and identifying and supporting opportunities for itinerant services in the community
  • Provide clients with information and referral services, and administer and discussion Second Career applications
  • Maintain complete client case files in compliance with the Employment Ontario model requirements; monitor clients’ progress with ongoing follow-up
  • Coordinate provision of services with the Job Development team; effectively assess clients’ motivation, reliability and dependability
  • Assist participants with the use of computers, the Internet, social media and other tools for further career training and job search
  • Have knowledge of current local labour market trends, community services and resources across the GTA
  • Have working knowledge of the EOIS and CAMS system
  • Deliver off-site Employment Counselling services, as needed


You are a graduate of a recognized university, ideally in Social Work, Education or a related subject and have 1-2 years of related experience. Certification from a Career and Work Counsellor Program would be an asset, as would certification from an institution such as VRA Canada or ICCI. Your background includes demonstrated problem-solving skills, strong command of the English language, sensitivity to diversity, and the ability to deal effectively with many personality types. You possess knowledge of the local community. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required for this position.
