Organization Profile: The Career Foundation offers a wide range of career and job related programs. Since its inception in 1988, The Career Foundation has steadily expanded its services. Operating out of seven locations, it now welcomes an average of over 40,000 client visits each year. The Career Foundation receives funding from Employment Ontario, Service Canada, and private sector companies.

Please note that the availability of this position is contingent upon receiving confirmation of funding approval from the Federal Government. It is anticipated that the position will be available late July 2015.

The Empowering Abilities project assists individuals with disabilities in overcoming barriers to employment by enhancing their employability to make a successful transition to employment or to return to school to further their career goal. The project consists of 10 weeks of pre-employment workshops followed by 12 weeks of a wage subsidy placement. The Employment Advisor Placement Specialist will case manage participants through the delivery of pre-employment workshops, one-on-one counselling, securing wage subsidy placements and/ or assisting participants in returning to school and doing follow-up with participants to ensure successful outcomes.

Position Type: Full time 52 week contract
Reporting to: Project Coordinator

Start date: tentative start date at end of July – pending funder approval

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
• Assess participants employability readiness and identify employment skills and supports required to be competitively employed and assist in developing those skills
• Delivering employability skills workshops and information sessions for participants
• Assisting participants to develop resumes, cover letters and interview skills
• Support participants to explore, obtain and maintain wage subsidy placements and employment
• Build and maintain professional relationships with employers and assist them to find the right employee with a disability for the their job
• Support employers by acting as a resource regarding individuals with a disability and assisting to customize the participants placement as needed
• Ongoing review of the participants performance and support required to gain the skills needed to be successful in their placement
• Coordinating and conducting marketing and outreach activities to employers, associations, sectors and community partners
• Conducting intake sessions with potential participants for the project
• Managing individual and team administrative duties: scheduling appointments for participants, completing necessary paperwork, maintaining participant and employer files and filing system
• Developing and maintaining accurate documentation related to wage subsidy placements
• Administering placement agreements with wage subsidies; monitoring wage subsidies throughout participant placements
• Ensuring individual placement targets are met
• Travelling on a regular basis to visit employers and work from various office locations

Qualifications/ Skills Required:
• University degree in Social Sciences or related field is required
• A minimum of 2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience is required
• A minimum of 2 years direct experience in recruitment, job development and / or job coaching
• Superior written communication skills and detail orientation are a must
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Workshop facilitation skills
• Understanding of and ability to effectively apply the principles of the sales process to generate leads for wage subsidy placements
• Vocational counselling / placement experience with individuals with a disability considered a strong asset
• Knowledge of local labour market, job search strategies and techniques
• Strong resume and cover letter writing skills
• Must be willing to travel, on a regular basis, for work
• Valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable vehicle is essential
• Flexible approach to work to ensure that all requirements of the project are met
• A second language is an asset
