Coordinator of Internship/Mentorship Program and Career Education

Overview of Position
Reporting to the Director of Senior School, the Coordinator of Internship/ Mentorship Programs and Career Education will empower students to discover their academic and personal strengths and interests to plan for their future. This individual will continue to develop and facilitate our Career Education Courses for Grades 8 through 12 with the support of our Counsellors. The successful candidate will also coordinate and implement our internship and mentorship program that offers students authentic real world experiences in workplaces and fields of interest. The successful candidate will also help students (and parents) with finding the right post-secondary program and with facilitating the University application process.



Internship and Mentorship Programs:

  • Develop and implement YHS Internship and Mentorship programs for students to explore passions and potential careers through authentic learning opportunities
  • Give student and parent information sessions on the YHS Internship & Mentorship Programs
  • Visit organizations and develop educational partnerships to identify, explore, and develop internship and mentorship opportunities for our students
  • Leverage the talents and capabilities of alumnae, parents and other valued members of the community to share their career paths and talents with our students
  • Offer workshops for students on identifying their strengths and interests
  • Match students’ interests with appropriate internship and mentorship opportunities
  • Coordinate guest speakers and visits to different workplaces/institutions/universities


Career Education Courses:

  • Develop Career Education Courses and Graduation Transition, with the new BC curriculum, for Grades 8 through 12
  • Work collaboratively with Counsellors and faculty to facilitate Career Education Courses
  • Work with Counsellors and faculty to track students’ completion of Career Education Courses


Course Planning/Academic Advising:

  • Provide guidance to students and parents of students in grades 10 – 12 with respect to post-secondary school options, including the application and admission procedures
  • Work particularly closely with senior students (Gr. 11 & 12) and parents throughout the post-secondary application process


University Applications Process:

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of University Admissions to help facilitate the University application process
  • Support students in developing personal portfolios and preparing for interviews and scholarship applications
  • Support Grade 12 girls and their parents in understanding the university selection process


Other Responsibilities:

  • Meet with students to facilitate the course selection processes, ensuring that prerequisites are met, and assist with scheduling issues
  • Attend all school functions where applicable
  • Other duties as assigned to support the implementation of the strategic plan



  • A passion for learning about others and understanding a diverse range of jobs and careers
  • Knowledge of the BC Curriculum and latest trends in educational research and pedagogy. Ability to initiate new ideas and contribute to the strategic development of the school
  • Knowledge of the current research on girls and learning, developing critical 21st century global competencies
  • Demonstrated experience as a dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic educator
  • A proven track record of the sustained commitment to professional growth and improvement
  • Commitment to excellence in holding students to high expectations
  • Diplomatic, tactful, courteous and calm when dealing with challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all stakeholders (students, parents, staff, faculty, business owners and employees)
  • Demonstrated exceptional organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Highly self-motivated, resourceful and detail-oriented



  • Bachelor of Education
  • Master’s degree or equivalent is an asset
  • British Columbia Teachers certification or equivalent
  • Secondary school qualifications
  • A minimum of five years of Secondary teaching experience (Gr. 8 to 12)
  • Post-secondary university admission / placement experience is an asset
  • Independent School experience is an asset
  • Coaching and/or extra-curricular experience is an asset


A criminal record and vulnerable sector check is a requirement.
