Contract Employment Counsellor / Job Developer (2 positions available)

REPORTS TO: Manager, Employment and Training Services
LOCATION: Hamilton
DIVISION: Employment and Training Services
HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 HRS / Week (some evenings & weekends)
START DATE: June 2017 (contract ends April 16, 2018)

Provide individual assistance and group training to individuals accessing the Opportunities Program for Individuals with Disabilities.



  • Must have post-secondary education coupled with diploma in HR or Career Development; or working towards the completion of post-secondary education in a related field; or have a combination of related work and academic experience
  • Performs all marketing and outreach activities to recruit clients
  • Performs intakes and assessments as prescribed by program guidelines
  • Refers clients to partner organizations and coordinates client activities at third parties
  • Develops Return-to-Work action plans with clients
  • Provides employment and career development advisement
  • Facilitates employment-related workshops
  • Identifies employment and placement opportunities for clients
  • Works closely with employers to identify their needs and to design work placements accordingly
  • Performs coaching and mentoring activities with clients
  • Documents all activities in file and specialized database
  • Provides accurate and timely reports
  • Works as a member of the team to support clients’ readiness for employment and self-employment programs and activities
  • Works as a member of the team to fulfill the objectives of the program and department
  • Develops and maintains current and relevant materials including workshop materials for the program
  • Works safely, reports all workplace hazards and follows all YWCA Hamilton Health and Safety policies and procedures, Occupational Health and Safety Act; participates in annual health and safety training provided by the YWCA
  • Performs other duties as required
  • Must be very proficient with various computer software, especially conversant in the use of databases and case management software
  • Must be able to work various shifts of day, afternoon, evening and weekend hours
  • Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset
  • Proficiency with MS Office Applications including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Working from a feminist, anti-oppressive /anti-racist perspective
  • Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police Check or willingness to obtain at own cost
  • Must have current Emergency First Aid/CPR or willingness to obtain at own cost
  • Attend and participate in mandatory training such as but not limited to Health and Safety Training and Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI)
