Student Support Services at Olds College has a .2 Counsellor contract position at the Calgary Campus. The term for this contract is August 21, 2017 to April 27, 2018. The schedule may be flexible, but will require 14.5 hours/weekly (up to 500 hours total).

The College Counsellor provides confidential counselling and support to individual and groups of students with mental health issues with the goal of assisting students in their personal wellbeing and academic success. This includes, but is not limited to, counselling about the symptoms, causes, effect and treatment of issues such as relationships, anxiety, depression, developmental disabilities, substance abuse and addictions. The Counsellor provides on-site counselling services for students attending the Fashion Institute at the Calgary Campus (14.5 hours/weekly).

This individual also provides education on mental health and substance abuse issues and is responsible for maintaining a network of relationships with Olds College staff and faculty to ensure that the whole community is aware of current issues and appropriate responses. The Counsellor is also responsible for maintaining a network of relationships with agencies, organizations and individuals outside Olds College which/who could assist with the delivery of services or inform the Counsellor of current issues and trends within the field.

The successful candidate will have the skills and passion to work with students and demonstrate a positive outlook, discretion, integrity, confidentiality and the ability to act in a professional and proactive manner. Strong coaching, presenting and collaboration skills along with a flexible approach to work are also essential.

The successful candidate(s) will have a Graduate Degree in Counselling, Psychology or a related discipline and must be licensed by the College of Alberta Psychologists. Previous experience working with young adults from a range of different backgrounds and experience working in a post-secondary education system are preferred. The successful candidate may also be required to participate in meetings at the Fashion Institute on the main campus in Olds (virtual attendance may be accommodated). A comprehensive knowledge of how mental health illness, trauma and substance misuse impacts learning and employment is an asset.
